Petzl GriGri is a climbing belay device with an assisted braking system. It is designed to facilitate belaying maneuvers and works equally well for belaying the leader and the ropes. It can be used on all dynamic single strings on the market from 8.5 to 11 mm (optimized for 8.9 mm to 10.5 mm strings).
The belayer must always hold the rope on the braking side with his right hand. When, following a fall, the rope enters tension, the GriGri cam rotates upwards and tightens it against the outer wall of the belayer, blocking its slippage and in this way stopping the fall. The design allows excellent control of the descent: one hand holds the rope while the other unlocks the cam thanks to the handle on the left side. This handle, with its patented structure, allows a noticeable progressive release.
