ViviDolomiti Ritratti d’Alpinismo vol.1 – L’Altro Volto:
- Preface by Nicholas Hobley – Summer 2013. A young man, Edoardo Falletta, repeats a route above Bardonecchia that was first climbed solo in 1951 by the great Walter Bonatti. The route had inexplicably fallen into obscurity, and this strange fate sparked Edoardo’s curiosity to explore not only the route but something much deeper: the human side of those who chose to leave their mark on the mountains. Discovering the faces, understanding not just the how but especially the why, delving into periods distant from him, represent the core of Edoardo’s search. This beautiful collection of profiles of Italian climbers and mountaineers, written with great enthusiasm and agile lightness, thus blossomed. The choice of portraits is interesting, a mix of top names and lesser-known ones, all sharing the same overwhelming passion for the mountains. When Edoardo first appeared on the pages of with his texts, he immediately hit the mark, thanks to his ability to speak to readers of all ages. Now this anthology will certainly help to nourish the dreams of all those who hold the mountains in their hearts, revealing hidden aspects of those who have helped write the history of mountaineering.
- Introduction by Maurizio Zanolla “Manolo” – Telling the human experience and what happens beyond the trivial is necessary, especially on the walls of life, which is itself a challenging climb, often uncomfortable, intricate, or even dangerous, much like climbing certain mountains. But it is important to chip away at our superficial desire for information and our inability to be outraged by the truth. Often our ignorance matches the ignorance and incompetence of those who govern us, and what we read daily is only a half-truth; therefore, we should strive to dig deeper, not forget, and participate to change it. In life, not everyone has the choice, and some choices become a climb…without knowing how to climb. Mountaineering – even though it is increasingly difficult to distinguish it from “climbing,” is just a game, a privilege, to distance ourselves from those larger and more dangerous walls that we continue, or others continue, to build in our everyday lives, but sometimes it is a human experience worth telling… hoping it will help us move forward!
